UMC launches production of 32-bit RISC cores SuperH with 0.13 micron norms

UMC announced that it was the first manufacturer of 0.13 micron chips based on the 32-bit RISC processor core from SuperH, a joint venture between Hitachi and STMicroelectronics.

At present, as stated in UMC, the company is preparing for the mass production of a series of 32-bit RISC SuperH SH4-200 processors using the 0.13-micron technical process. SH-4 core is designed for use in automotive and consumer electronics. The 266 MHz SH-4 core is equipped with IEEE754-compliant single and double precision floating point computations, which allows for four vector / matrix computations with ordinary precision, which allows them to be used for processing floating point signal algorithms and working in 3D graphics applications.
SH4-200 series is equipped with 16 KB associative instruction cache, 32 KB operand cache, SuperHyway Bus with performance up to 2.1 Gb / s. Specific power consumption of the SH4-200 core is less than 1 mW per MHz, at a clock frequency of 266 MHz and a supply voltage of 1.2 V.
