Low-voltage 512 Mbit SDRAM chips from Samsung

Samsung Electronics announced the beginning of shipments of samples of 512 Mbit low-voltage SDRAM chips for mobile applications – third generation (3G) cell phones, PDA and digital cameras.

Like other memory products for mobile devices, Samsung’s new 512 Mbit SDRAM chips, the K4S51163LC, have a supply voltage of 2.5 V, while consuming half the power in standby mode than standard SDRAM chips. To reduce energy consumption, the new chips use Partial Array Self Refresh (PASR) and Temperature Compensated Self-Refresh (TCSR) technologies.

The new chips are manufactured by Samsung using a 0.15 micron process and come in a 54-pin BGA package with a 16-bit bus or in a 90-pin BGA package with a 32-bit bus.
