NAB Show: the first holographic recorder from InPhase Technologies

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), which will be held in Las Vegas April 8-10, is expected to showcase the world’s first prototype holographic video recorder.

InPhase Technologies, the brainchild of Lucent Technologies, intends to demonstrate the Tapestry system, a device with the ability to write once up to 100 GB of video on one holographic disk. The future plans of the company include the release of products with a terabyte storage capacity.

The new recording system is expected to initially find use in professional video systems. Tapestry will hit the market in limited quantities towards the end of 2021, with bulk shipments starting in 2021.

InPhase Tapestry technology is based on the projection of holograms onto a disk, resulting from the intersection of the control and signal beams. The data is encoded in the signal beam by a spatial light modulator (SLM), which transfers data from an electronic view to an optical array of 1.3 million. bit. When reading a hologram, the reference beam is deflected and then projected onto the detector. To increase the speed of reading, the process can be parallelized.
