SDRAM prices: growth?

Here’s the disappointing news: over the last two days, prices for 128 Mbit SDRAM chips jumped by 6%. So far, there has been no reasonable explanation for such a jump from brokers and analysts. Nevertheless, the fact remains: here are the current prices currently being indexed by DRAM Exchange:

  • DDR 256Mb, 32Mx8, 266MHz – average price $ 6.52
  • DDR 128Mb, 16Mx8, 266MHz – average price $ 2.52
  • SDRAM 256Mb, 32Mx8, 133MHz – average price $ 7.18
  • SDRAM 128Mb, 16Mx8, 133MHz – average price $ 2.28

Over the past two days, prices for 128 Mbit SDRAM chips up to $ 2.50 – $ 3.50, for 256 Mbit SDRAM chips – up to $ 7.90 – $ 9.00 have been recorded on the exchange trading floor. It is possible that the rally was not caused by any specific factors, but is a normal pullback from the lows reached last week.

Meanwhile, the price of Rambus DRAM chips remains unchanged, almost like the price of DDR SDRAM.
