Intrinsity Adaptive DSP @ 2GHz

It seems that megahertz, but what is really there, and gigahertz, today you will not surprise anyone. Intrinsity has announced plans to release a 2 GHz Adaptive Digital Signal Processor (ADSP), built using a matrix structure based on a 32-bit RISC core licensed from MIPS Technologies.

A new type of signal processors will be designed to solve problems that are not yet tough for conventional DSP and FPGA (field-programmable gate arrays), or custom ASIC. Intrinsity’s FastMath processor is claimed to be capable of operating at frequencies up to 4 GHz and deliver up to six times the performance of the fastest DSPs available today.

FastMath and FastMIPS (practically FastMIPS is the same FastMath, only without a matrix structure) are expected in the fourth quarter of 2021. The processors will be produced according to 0.13-micron technological standards by a certain Taiwanese company, the name of which has not yet been announced (however, the choice here, in general, is small – either TSMC or UMC).

The 2 GHz clock speed was made possible by Intrinsity’s Fast14 technology. This technology is the quintessence of custom gating circuits, dynamic logic gates, custom wiring, and design automation tools. Intrinsity currently has about 80 Fast14 patent applications.

How much FastMath and FastMIPS will cost is still unknown.
