Samsung: first DDR-II SDRAM chips. Important addition

Yesterday’s news regarding the release by Samsung Electronics of the industry’s first 512 Mbit DDR-II SDRAM chips (K4T5104 (08/16) 3QM), I think, will be incomplete, if we do not supplement the given evenings with today’s data obtained from the company’s website with details.

So, the new 512 Mbit chips from Samsung that meet the requirements of the JEDEC DDR-II standard adopted in March 2021 have the following characteristics:

  • Supply voltage 1.8V
  • Data rate 533 Mbps / p (i.e. 533 Mbps per contact)
  • Differential strobe
  • Off-chip output driver calibration (OCD)
  • On-die termination (ODT)
  • Standard 4-bank core with independent architecture – 4 Bank
  • Deferred CAS # – Posted CAS
  • Programmable CAS Latency: 3, 4, 5 and 6 – Optional); Programmable Additive Latency: 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, pulse interrupt
  • Delay for writing data: the read latency is built according to the scheme – 1 clock cycle – Write Latency (WL) = Read Latency (RL) -1
  • Supported packet lengths: Burst Length – 4 (Read / Write Interrupt Prohibited but only Read interrupted by Read & Write interrupted by Write are allowed), or 8 (Interleave / nibble sequential) Programmable Sequential / Interleave Burst Mode
  • 4 words per cycle in read / write delay inhibit mode with read / write delay enabled in single-phase modes
  • 8 words per cycle in sequential alternating / discontinuous phase mode in fully programmable (controlled) sequential and alternating burst switching mode
  • Bidirectional, (Single-ended data-strobe is an optional feature). Means that the controller does not have to be at the beginning of the chain, it can be located anywhere in the structure.
