Intel Pentium 4-M processors and i845MP / MZ chipsets, officially

Intel today announced the mobile version of its Pentium 4 – M processor, and it will ship. In addition, Intel also announced a new family of mobile chipsets – Intel 845MP and Intel 845MZ, with support for DDR memory.

The main difference between the new processor for mobile PCs and processors for desktop systems is the advanced power management tools that extend the battery life of the computer. Among them – the Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology, which provides automatic switching between the maximum performance mode and the power saving mode, depending on the intensity of the processor load; Deeper Sleep mode, in which the processor operates at a voltage of only 1 V, and the power consumption drops to 0.2 W and below (while the application data is saved); and Enhanced Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP) Technology. IMVP III is a voltage regulation technology that dynamically changes the voltage of the processor depending on its load, thereby reducing the calculated heat generation rate.

Pentium 4-M mobile processors have 512KB L2 cache, support 400MHz FSB, are designed with Intel 0.13μm technology, and contain 55M. transistors, 25% more than the previous Intel mobile processor. Currently Intel Pentium 4-M are available in mFCPGA (Micro-Flip Chip Pin Grid Array) package with clock speeds of 1.7 and 1.6 GHz. In Enhanced Speed Step Auto Mode, the Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M Processor operates at up to 1.7 GHz with 1.3 V supply voltage (at peak performance mode). In power saving mode, both processor modifications operate at 1.2 GHz at 1.2 V, while their average power consumption is less than 2 W.

Intel Pentium 4-M Mobile 1.7 and 1.6 GHz are priced at $ 496 and $ 392, respectively. The package includes the processor itself and a warranty certificate.

The i845MP chipset is made in an FCPGA package and is designed to use an external graphics subsystem; it supports external graphics with AGP 4x interface, 400 MHz FSB and 266 MHz DDR SDRAM with up to 1 GB of supported memory, up to six USB ports, 100Base-TX, Ultra ATA / 100, ACPI 2.0 and t.d. I845MP shipments have already begun. Later this year, Intel will introduce the i845MZ chipset with integrated graphics without external AGP bus support, also supporting Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology and Deep Sleep and Deeper Sleep modes optimized for low-cost systems.
