Self-destruct DVD

It seems that interesting things are being developed literally every day. Here is a small, predominantly research firm SpectraDisc claims to have developed a special coating for DVDs that allows you to physically destroy data on an optical media after its first play. That is, along with reading the disc, the laser simultaneously erases it, reacting with a transparent polymer in which there is a photosensitive chemical called azobenzene. I think there is no need to talk about the areas of application of this technology.

The invention is over, interesting, but not according to our souls, so to speak. But here another interesting aspect arises – protecting the environment from such discs. Although SpectraDisc claims that discs can be easily recycled, environmentalists are already trumpeting all the pipes about the mandatory construction of factories for processing such discs for their reuse. It is quite logical – no one needs mountains of “used” DVDs. Although it will take some time before the technology is implemented.
