3DLabs WildCat III family cards announcement
Today 3DLabs announced two new professional graphics cards of the WildCat III family – 6210 and 6110. New cards are based on the ParaScale architecture on a single chip (it’s not very clear on which one). According to the company, the new architecture allows to increase the performance during the initial calculation of geometry by 65%, and to speed up the filling of the scene and work with memory by 100%. Ksati, about memory, 6210 has it (not to be confused with a phone) as much as 416 MB (!), the younger model has only 208 MB.
Naturally, both Pentium 4 and Athlon XP are fully supported. DirectX 7 is also supported (and the card doesn’t need more), and, more importantly, OpenGL 1.3 and OpenML 1.0. New maps are optimized for popular CAD / CAM systems. In addition, up to 32 light sources can be simultaneously calculated by hardware, volumetric textures, cubic texturing, bump mapping, etc. are supported.d., there is also a dual DVI interface.
New cards are already available from leading vendors.
Looks like a really serious card for powerful x86 graphics stations. Let’s see how it behaves during independent tests.
