Alpine car navigation system

Alpine Electronics unveils car navigation system developed in collaboration with Aisin AW, “i-assist NAVI HDD 555”. The system has its own 2.5-inch 16GB hard drive from Toshiba.

In addition to having its own hard drive, where, presumably, you can load a map of the area, NAVI HDD 555 is able to communicate with mobile phones and PCs. In the near future, Alpine promised to present a special portal mydrivenet.com. The company imagines the operation of the system as follows: the user searches for a destination using his cell phone or PC and enters the time and place in the list of tasks on the portal. At the designated time, the user receives an e-mail or SMS with a notification like “Shouldn’t you go to point X?”and the navigation system receives a map with the route of movement.

And when the user has already arrived at the destination and parked the car, he receives another notification, but this time about walking on foot, and the navigation system displays for him a map of the area with the route from the parking to the desired point.

Of course, all this pleasure will not be free. The cost of a subscription to the service providing the shortest routes will be 300 yen ($ 2.5) per month. In the future, from this fall, Alpine plans to introduce a service for downloading road maps of the areas in which users are located.

NAVI HDD 555 is expected to start shipping in July. The cost of a system with an 8-inch monitor will be 320,000 yen ($ 2,560), with a 6-inch screen – 288,000 yen ($ 2,310).
