Microsoft sent Freestyle Beta PC to beta testers

Microsoft has begun shipping beta testers of its new Freestyle multimedia interface, designed to turn a Windows XP PC into a virtual multimedia center for an apartment. As conceived by the developers, Freestyle will allow the user to access multimedia PC content – films, music, photographs, from anywhere in his apartment. Freestyle is slated to be part of Windows XP Service Pack 1, which is slated for release towards the end of the summer. However, the technology will still be in demand only by OEMs preparing the release of PCs with Freestyle support. Hardware support for Freestyle has already been announced by Hewlett-Packard, NEC and Samsung.

The Freestyle beta testing kit includes a PC and all the necessary components for installing, using and collecting statistics for bug reports about the new technology.
