New Pentium 4 chipsets i845E, i845G and i845GL from Intel, officially

Intel today officially announced its new DDR chipsets for the Pentium 4 platform with 533 MHz bus support – Intel 845E and 845G and 845GL.
Left: i845E; right: i845G

i845E consists of the so-called “north” bridge Intel MCH (Memory Controller Hub) i845E complete with south bridge ICH4 and is a discrete version with support for the new system bus 533 MHz, DDR SDRAM memory of DDR200 / 266 standards.

The i845G integrated chipset consists of an Intel GMCH i845G northbridge with an integrated Intel Extreme Graphics and an ICH4 southbridge, electrically compatible with the i845 controller line, also supports 533 MHz bus like i845E, DDR200 / 266 memory, plus can work with PC133. For the needs of the video subsystem, a buffer of up to 8 MB is allocated from the RAM. I845GL version differs from i845G by lack of support for external AGP bus.

In addition, Intel also announced the release of the South Bridge (I / O Controller Hub) ICH4, which, in addition to the capabilities of ICH2, has support for six USB 2 ports.0 (Enhanced Host Controller Interface, EHCI); 20-bit audio interface, support for up to three codecs, work with Dual DMA blocks to support simultaneous output over PCM and S / PDIF.

All the details about the i845E and i845G, as well as the results of testing motherboards on these chipsets and VIA P4X333 are presented in our new article New chipsets for Pentium 4 processors on 533MHz bus: from Intel and VIA.

At the same time, Intel announced four new motherboard models for PC makers and system integrators: Intel ATX D845GBV and D845EBG2, and Intel D845GRG and D845EPT2 for micro-ATX desktop systems.

It only remains to add that for deliveries in batches of 1000 or more, the Intel 845G, Intel 845E and Intel 845GL chipsets will cost $ 46, $ 41 and $ 33, respectively. New motherboards based on i845E, i845G and i845GL chipsets have long been prepared by manufacturers, and after this announcement they should appear in a fairly wide range.
