0.13 micron Virtex-II Pro processors for Xilinx will be made by IBM
IBM and Xilinx have announced a two-year manufacturing agreement for IBM to manufacture new FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Array) Xilinx Virtex-II Pro chips using their latest design: 0.13 micron process technology with all copper conductors, modern low-k dielectrics, etc.P.
As you know, IBM reported on the release of trial batches of 0.13 micron products on 300 mm silicon wafers in January 2021, and by the second half of the year it is planned to use it in full for the production of Power PC processors.
Prior to this, Xilinx placed its orders at the 300 mm factory of Trescenti, as a customer of the Taiwanese UMC. As a reminder, in February UMC decided to sell its stake in Trescenti to its second joint venture partner, Japanese Hitachi.
New FPGA chips will be manufactured by IBM at its factory in Burlington, Vermont, USA. Next year it is planned to migrate from 0.13 micron technical process standards to 0.10 micron.
