AMPL Smart Backpack: A Review | What Time Is It
SPIE: new EUV lithography from ASET

At the SPIE Microlithography conference, a group of Japanese developers announced the completion of the development of a prototype lithographic instrument built on the basis of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology. The Association of Super-Advanced Electronics Technologies (ASET) claims that a system built with EUV will create integrated circuits with element sizes down to 35 nm (0.035 μm).

Now the developers are completing the planned program of creating photomasks, metrology and calibration systems, photoresists and lasers for EUV lithography. If you take a short excursion into history, you can recall that at the end of last year, ASET, with the support of the government and some companies, created a special group to support EUV in Japan, which, by the way, included Canon and Nikon. It doesn’t matter if such a quick completion of the work was the result of the help of ASET or the hard work of the researchers (and research began more than two years ago, and the first EUV tools were designed for 70nm technical processes), but the fruit of these efforts is quite tangible in the near future. see EUV lithographic systems.

So far, ASET has only announced the completion of development and has not provided test results. In addition, when they appear, EUV faces the fate of being completely captured by some “predatory shark of the business”, since ASET does not have clear plans for the future of its brainchild. “We are exclusively engaged in research,” they told reporters.

Canon and Nikon are currently working on metrology and calibration tools for EUV lithography, while Gigaphoton, a joint venture between Komatsu and Ushio, is working on UV lasers for EUV.
