QDR SRAM: JEDEC approved and new band member

Five Quad Data Rate (QDR) SRAM vendors today announced that JEDEC has adopted QDRII and Double Data Rate II (DDRII) SRAM as industry standards.

The new JEDEC standards, according to the development group – Cypress, IDT, Micron, NEC and Samsung, define the structure and pinout for all SRAM products of memory groups QDRII and DDRII with capacities up to 288 Mbit.

JEDEC has standardized a 165-pin fine-pitch ball-grid array (FBGA) package for future QDR memory products, resulting in a 40% reduction in chip size compared to traditional 209-pin BGA or 100-pin thin-quad flat-packs ( TQFP) housing.

Static memory (SRAM) QDRII and DDRII products support clock rates up to 333 MHz and are designed to work in OC192 (10 Gb / s) and OC768 (40 Gb / s) devices.

In addition, the QDR SRAM development group has been replenished: Hitachi announced its desire to join the QDR Group.
